Vol.23
EMBRACING THE SELF THROUGH A WORLD OF ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES
I don’t know about you, but I am feeling a positive shift in the way I do things, look at things, and experience things in my life. It is amazing how fresh one’s perspective can become after battling out a raging fever for days on end. You very quickly see exactly what it is you need to get rid of and exactly what you need to work towards. Behind the scenes, we have a couple of projects that we are slowly chipping through with the intention of their publication within this space, Behind the Veil. Re-visiting these cherished teachings and refining them to share with all of you has allowed me to re-examine and re-implement them in my own life. After all, even the best of us can fall off the wagon at times! But in creating this new content for all of you, I have felt fresh momentum and perspective. In truth, I feel like working on The Mystery Teachings (if you missed it, view the video here) has prompted me to re-evaluate my own way of doing things. I am returning to my roots, reminding myself of how I got here in the first place, and using that same proven strategy to get to where I want to go in all areas of my life.
That being said, I want to emphasise that the power to create the life that we desire is within us. As I said in Volume 22, who you are is always known to you, we just have to have the courage to acknowledge it. And I am here to remind you of this every. single. time.
Marketing in the wellness space is saturated with brands telling you that you need x, y, z to get the life that you want. We are shown problems and issues within ourselves that we were not even aware of and then sold a product or service that claims to fix it. This is the capitalist way. Make a problem and build a business around that problem to offer an alternative that feeds back into the very problem they are trying to get away from.
But what if, instead, we looked at things that were beautiful to us, things that did not tell you there was a problem to be fixed (cue anti ageing cream)... Let's think instead of: the flow of a dress, the construction of a beautiful handmade vase, the layered notes of a natural parfum; what if we looked to Artisans, the niche companies doing their thing exceptionally well rather than putting our focus on giants that run their businesses on profits rather than quality and integrity. Within my business as a creator, I choose to look at how something can make someone feel, with scent, with touch… I am always thinking of how the senses can be invigorated. My practice is rooted in Earth-based Spirituality, and thus, the magick that I create with is grounded and steady. The intention for the things I create has always been as resources of support, their use as aids, as these are the aids that have helped me and enriched my own journey.
I thought of long belly laughs on evening terraces with friends, I thought of the pure instant bliss certain foods gave me, the instant pick me up a spoonful of honey made me feel.
When the idea came to me to create Bath Nectar I thought about how I wanted to feel; I thought about why I wanted to feel that way and from there I wrote down all the things in life that instantly made me feel that way. For this particular product it was all about sweetness, the joy of life, being happy and carefree and the warmth that results from those feelings. I thought of long belly laughs on evening terraces with friends, I thought of the pure instant bliss certain foods gave me, the instant pick me up a spoonful of honey made me feel. From there I built upon it, I have my key traits, I wrote a little story in my mind of where I would be transported to when I dunked my head under the bath water and went on my way to sourcing the best quality ingredients I could find. What I was not expecting to discover was how the ingredients used in beauty products are some of the most stale, old and awful quality things I found. The scent profile was not right, (no wonder everyone saturates everything with essential oils) so I literally turned to food and medicinal consumables. If it was an organic food ingredient of the best quality then it's got to work for the skin, and so it was. Bath Nectar was born out of, and is still to this day, the memory I have of submerging myself into those creamy honey waters of Sicily, smiling with the warmth of the Mediterranean sun kissing my cheeks, making them rosy, feeling delighted and joyful just as my daughters are when they get a spoonful of fresh honey from the hive.
This creative process, that relies heavily on feeling, remains the same with each ritual, with each product that I create, even the ones I curate from around the globe, those that are not my own. They are all pulled together with the intention of creating a certain experience. I want the process to feel a certain way and so, by combining my knowledge, interests, and experience I create something that is of value to me. Doing this ensures that I show up for myself, it makes the experience more Sacred, more intentional for me. I made my desire for beautiful things and experiences something that could work for me. I used what some might consider a “crutch” (for pleasing aesthetics and experience) to my advantage by reframing it. Because to a certain extent, projection is about giving yourself permission to show up in the way you want.
We live in a day and age where there are infinite possibilities and endless opportunities. The world is not so small because suddenly you might see yourself in someone that is oceans away from you. In your small town or big city, you might feel different, but in opening ourselves to the world stage, we might have a glimpse of what we want for ourselves and that’s inspiring. The problem occurs when the noise becomes too loud, when we become more interested in what’s happening outside rather than inside. The thing with marketing in the wellness industry is that they want you to show up in the way that they are highlighting at the moment, based on current conversations or trending ideologies, so it’s easy to lose yourself and become a mish mash of what they are selling.
Having a strong projection or sense of self, in short, knowing yourself, ensures that we don’t get lost in the noise.
Having a strong projection or sense of self, in short, knowing yourself, ensures that we don’t get lost in the noise. And it can be difficult to return to self when everyone else is screaming their own stories on megaphones. We often forget that the most important story is your own.
Recently, when I feel that I need to return home to myself, when all the outside demands have left me feeling a little less than ideal, I think of things (in the same way I created Bath Nectar) that make me feel amazing. Oftentimes, the order of the day is: to have a bath or shower; wash my hair and brush out all the knots (as I do this I think of all the knots as current aggravations in life and brush them out). I put a fresh outfit made of fabrics that feel soft on my skin on and choose one of the perfume samples I have that smells right at that moment and dab it behind my ears, my wrists and the nape of my neck. I think of a food I want to eat (usually cacio e pepe); sounds that transport me to a place where I feel delight and adventure, most of the time lyrics that are not in english. Instantly, my mood changes and I feel rooted again. It seems simple, but the things that guide us back home to ourselves often are.
This is the way I choose to work with the Goddess Venus and embody her energy. Luxuriating through the senses, indulging things that make me feel good. Even if nobody else in the house wants to eat my super peppery super cheesy pasta, fuck em! I tell myself in my head very often. Who cares if nobody will smell the perfume you just anointed yourself with? You will. You must do the things that make you feel alive, that make you sing from the inside out.
This is the way we use what we have: our feelings, our imagination, our desires, to feed us. The truth is that you don’t need to turn to a supplement, or a tool, or a fix to feel better. The key is to begin within. If that supplement will make you feel better then by all means reach for it. But if your heart and soul is calling for something deeper, heed to that feeling. Let it be your guide. Open yourself up to what it’s trying to tell you. Turning to yourself first means that you are creating and establishing a stronger and better relationship with yourself. We are deepening the experience by showing that our desires matter. This is how the world comes to you. This is how we build trust and connection. Everything you need or desire is within you if you just choose to acknowledge it. Let’s have the courage to admit it and witness the possibilities before us!
Let us remember that the power to create the life we desire resides within us. Amidst the noise of marketing and societal expectations, we must stay true to ourselves and seek beauty in things that resonate and align with our integrity. By indulging in experiences that make us feel alive, we establish a stronger relationship with ourselves and open up to endless possibilities. Trust your inner voice, embrace your desires, and acknowledge that everything you need is already within you. Let's have the courage to embrace our own stories and witness the extraordinary potential that lies before us.
Amidst the noise, find your voice. In the chaos, discover your truth. Within you lies the power to navigate the endless possibilities and create a life that resonates with your entire being.
Amoureuse,
Brooke
